Announcing the Lateral Tech Foundation to bring common sense back to FOSS

(July 4, 2026) The Lateral Tech Foundation today announces its formation, purpose, and goals. By rejecting the current trajectory of many FOSS projects the Lateral Tech Foundation will reclaim and return to use mature and reliable software.

Software trends have resulted in an endless cycle of updates which drive other endless and wasteful cycles. One of these wasteful cycles is the need to continually upgrade hardware and another is the need to constantly update software to work with the latest versions of its dependencies. Instead we choose the wisdom embodied in "Lateral Thinking with Withered Technology" by embracing mature software and traditional Unix design philosophies.

The Lateral Tech Foundation is a collection of like-minded developers and projects. Our flagship project is an independent BSD that embodies these values without compromise. A secondary project is to create an independent Linux distribution to pick up where Devuan has left off. To date our best known project is the gtk2-ng fork by Daemonratte.
